Direct to garment printing: what you need to know<\/h1>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Direct to garment printing, also known as DTG, is an inkjet printing technology, a method that is becoming increasingly popular in the printing and textile industry.<\/p>\r\n

In this article, we will see how this printing technique works as well as its different applications.<\/p>\r\n

What exactly is DTG?<\/h1>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It is a revolutionary technology that appeared in the late 90s. Following in the footsteps of simple, home printers, DTG printers print graphics and images directly onto clothing instead of onto paper.<\/p>\r\n

This technique requires little or no preparation. Images are recreated by a head that projects thousands of tiny drops of ink directly onto the fabric. The visual effect has a soft texture, which is also seen in the texture as the ink penetrates directly into the fibers of the garment.<\/p>\r\n

It is generally considered as one of the most ecological techniques and technologies. It allows for minimal energy consumption and also produces minimal waste. DTG uses special water-based inks that are absorbed by the fabric fibers. These inks are also environmentally friendly (they have OEKO-TECH, ECO PASSPORT certifications, etc.) and are therefore not toxic or dangerous for children. Finally, they are 100% biodegradable. Where can I use Direct to Garment?<\/h2>\r\n

DTG printers offer ultra-precise printing. They allow us to print logos, images or even photos in great detail. And, above all, they have no color restrictions!<\/p>\r\n

DTG printing allows a reproduction of the image that is very faithful to the original optical. This technique allows the reproduction of a wide variety of colors and complex details. On the contrary, it does not allow the printing of metallic or fluorescent colors. For this one should turn to screen printing or other methods.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

DTG printing: on what fabric?<\/h2>\n

A printer with DTG capabilities can print photos and images in many colors on almost any fabric. Of course, you will see better results if the product and fabric is made of natural fibers such as cotton. In synthetic fabrics such as polyester, this technique should be avoided. Direct to garment<\/p>\n

Mainly this technique is used for printing on light-colored fabrics (white, gray, natural pastel) as in these colors DTG printing works best. On dark fabrics, the printing process varies. Mainly, a pre-treatment is required so that the white ink can enter the fibers and remain. And finally, in this case, the printing is done in 2 stages: first a white substrate (which serves as a base) and then a layer with the colors that will make up the image.<\/p>\n
